The Saskatchewan Act’s assigns a -3 demerit point value to a range of charges for reckless or dangerous driving behaviors. These charges are in place to ensure road safety and prevent accidents from occurring. Some of the charges include disobeying a license endorsement or restriction, impeding traffic, exceeding the speed limit in a school zone, and failing to obey a flag person or peace officer. In addition, drivers are also penalized for failing to yield, proceeding the wrong way on a one-way highway, and following too closely.
Another charge that holds a -3 demerit point value is exceeding 60 km/h when passing a highway worker, an emergency vehicle, or a tow truck. These actions put the lives of others on the road at risk and are not tolerated by the law. Additionally, drivers who disobey peace officer’s directions, insufficiently signal, or drive contrary to signage also face consequences.
Commercial drivers who operate vehicles equipped with radar warning devices and those who allow riders on the exterior of the vehicle are also subject to a -3 demerit point value. Overcrowding the driving compartment or driving a motorcycle without the required gear is also deemed dangerous and holds the same penalty. Finally, drivers who fail to wear a seatbelt or allow unrestrained passengers in their vehicle face a -3 demerit point value as well.
